Past
Countless eons ago, long before what is commonly accepted as the first recorded history, the world had been cast into darkness. In spite this, life flourished. Man lived within this world, but they were not the one in charge. A race called the dark ones ruled, and they treated man well, at least at first. It was far from a perfect world. It had many flaws. A fact Ranen knew first hand. He had been born into what the dark ones considered peasant class. His parents had very little power. In fact, they had so little power that it was often joked they might as well be human. It was a world where the peasant lived to serve to powerful lords or ladies whom ruled over the land they lived upon. There were rules in place to keep these powerful lords or ladies from mistreating their subjects, but these laws were not always enforced and peasants were often found being abused.
The lord whom ruled over the land that his family had made their home upon was particularly known for his cruelty, but he didn't show any interest within them and his parents believed that it would continue that way. That is until Ranen displayed great power. They knew that one of their lords position might take great offense to someone of a lower class having such powers. Many believed that only those of high birth should possess great powers. However, his parents did not wish for Ranen to be ashamed of his powers. They believed there was a reason he had been born with them, and trained him to the best of their abilities how to use them. They hid him whenever their lord came to visit, making the existence of their son unknown to the man.
However, they never thought he would show interest within their daughter. They had thought he would regard her as he did every other member of the family, but he decided he wanted her. For several years, the lord played nice. He tried to convince Ranen's parents to give him their daughter, but they refused. Finally when Ranen was twelve and his sister was ten, the lord grew tired of playing nice killed their parents right before their eyes. Ranen knew he had to get his sister out of there. So, he grabbed her hand and rushed into the woods that surrounded their home with the lord right behind them. The lord believed Ranen was weak just like his parents and would be deposed of just as easily, but he was quickly learned how mistaken he was. Ranen not only possessed great powers, but ones that rivaled the strongest of them.
His parents had not realized just how strong their son was, but the lord did and he decided that he wanted Ranen as his personal soldier With Ranen underneath his control the entire world would be his for the taking. Ranen knew that he couldn't run forever. He had to get his sister as far away from their pursuer as quickly as possible. He decided to teleport them away, but he had just recently learned how to do this. He didn't know how to pick the location of the place he would end up. More importantly he didn't know how to keep others from following him. The lord, knowing this, decided to influence where Ranen emerged and grabbed his sister as soon as they came out of the portal. Ranen, in an attempt to keep his sister out of that man's grasp, teleported away a second time.

Ranen, in an attempt to keep his sister out of that man's grasp, teleported away a second time.
He might posses great power, but lack of proper training made using his abilities in rapid succession exhausting and Ranen fell unconscious as soon as he exited from his second teleportation portal. The lord knowing this was going to happen took Ranen's sister back to his estate before retrieving Ranen from where he had passed out. Ranen's training begun as soon as he worked up, but his sister had begun before that. He was horrified to see what was being done to her sister. She was being trained how to be the lord's personal sex slave. While Ranen hated seeing her being treated that way, he knew he wouldn't be able to save her without proper training. So, he pretended to accept the destiny that his new master had picked for him, and soaked up any training that was sent his way.
Finally, the day he was hoping for arrived. He believed he had acquired enough power to free his sister, and he did. The only thing he had not expected was his sister to love the man. Ranen hated the man. He hated the way he treated his sister. The way he treated anyone period, but his beloved sister most of all. He was about to deliver the killing blow upon the being he considered to be nothing more than a monster when his sister jumped between them. She begged him to spare the monster whom had showed her nothing but horror. The only reason that made sense to him was that the lord had somehow twisted her mind with all the abuse he had flung upon her, and so he knocked his sister aside to finish the job. However, his sister determined to save the monster once again leaped between him and Ranen.
This action did not protect the lord from death, but it did allow her to share the same fate. Ranen was horrified, but try as he might he couldn't bring his sister back. He fled from the estate, burning it down with his master's and sister's bodies inside. This action might be disgusting to some, but Ranen had been raised with the belief that a dead body held no importance. In his mind, their bodies were no more precious than the estate itself or a pile of leaves within the woods. He put as much distance between his life with his master and his new identity. He found himself joining different military groups across the years, and receiving an arrangement of nicknames in the process. In fact, he was rarely referred to by his actual name---something he had grown accustom to while his master had been alive and so it did not phase him when others did it.
Some part of him was grateful. It did allow him to put some distance between the him now and his past. The years drifted by until The Trinity took over. Humans whom had lived relatively well underneath the dark ones now was finding themselves being nothing more than personal play things. The rules that had given the weak some protection against those whom might abuse them vanished. It was a world where you had enough power you could do whatever you pleased. Ranen didn't care. He was powerful enough that he didn't have to worry about anyone forcing him to endure anything he didn't want to, and he could live anywhere. It was here that he would receive the identity of the Black Phoenix. It came from--not surprising--his knack of coming out of situations that should have killed him not only alive but unharmed.
This continued on for awhile until the creator of man--God---decided to send his angels down to protect humans. However, angels were creatures of light whom did not do well within a world of darkness. They needed light to be at there best, and because the world was one of darkness they could not protect their charges as they desired. It was around this time that Ranen discovered he could travel to other realms, and begun acquiring lovers from different realms. Hope came to the race of man when a dark one named Azmyth overthrew The Trinity, and while he put in places laws that were meant to protect humans against dark ones' cruelty things were still horrible for man. Once again, Ranen found himself not caring.
In fact, he found his eyes turned towards the realm of demons. He had grown bored of the humans and angels lovers he had acquired over the years and was looking for something different. He decided that a demon was just what he was looking for, and so traveled there. He wondered hell for awhile until he came upon the demon that he wanted. She was the wife of the second lord of hell, and the moment he saw her he knew that he had to have her. He took her, and brought her back to his estate with him. He kept her for awhile, unaware that another dark one was visiting and torturing her. Eventually, she became pregnant with Ranen's child, and the dark one whom had been torturing her in secret told her that he was going to take her unborn child.
Fearing for her child's life, she fled back to her husband in hell. Ranen came for her and his unborn child right away. She begged and pleaded with him to allow their unborn child to be raised in hell. She didn't want the other one to get him. Ranen asked her whom the other one was, but she wouldn't tell him. It might be that she didn't know. However, upon seeing how terrified she was of this other he decided to what she asked. He allowed his son to remain in hell even after his mother have died. He taught his son the ways of the dark ones. He loved his son more than anything within the entire universe, and there was nothing he wouldn't do for his boy.
However, love didn't keep someone from being hurt or unwell. A lesson he had learned a long time ago and one he was being reminded of where his son was concerned. His son had fallen in love with his half sister. Now, within their world being with ones sibling was not frowned upon. However, the sister did not share his son's affection. Something that his son didn't understand, and he was slowly driving himself insane by trying to figure it out. Now, it might have been Ranen's fault that his son could not accept rejection. He had told him that the dark one blood running through his veins made him superior to everyone around him.
Ranen's son appeared to hit rock bottom when his sister decided to marry the king of hell. He decided to give his son something else to focus upon. He believed that if his son had something else to focus upon that his broken heart would heal. He suggested that his son took over the world, and introduced him to one of Ranen's friends from another realm. The two of them hit it off right away, and they decided to join forces not only to take over the world but the entire universe. Ranen's plan seemed to work. His son was no longer being weighed down by his sister rejection, and it seemed that he had found a new love. However, he was not the only one that had affection for her. His friend loved her, too.
The two of them fought over her, and it was a fight that would cost the woman they loved her life. Both were heartbroken, and decided that it might be best if they went their separate ways. Ranen was afraid his son might return to the state he had been before he had introduced him to his friend, but he did not. He went right back to his plans to take over the world, but his plans would never come to fruition. Ranen's son died not long afterwards. He was heartbroken, and he didn't know all the details on how he died. However, he didn't allow himself to wallow in grief for long. He knew that it wouldn't bring his son back.
It was around this time that God made a deal with the king of hell. Demons would travel realm of men and dark ones, and protect humans against their tormentor in exchange for the humans providing the demons with food. This arrangement worked at first, but the protector eventually became the tormentor. This went on for some time until a human by the name of Sara Jean climbed to the top of the tallest mountain and asked God to give them a weapon they could use to defend themselves. God so moved by her pleas decided to return the sun to the sky. The return of the sun caused many of the dark creatures whom had made their home upon what would become known as the human realm to retreat into others realms---including dark ones.
These creatures will travel to the human realm to acquire pets and some have managed to find ways to stay within the human realm more permanently. However, the return of the sun did cause all the humans tormentors to flee. Demons--unaffected by the sun---continued to torment the humans in the same manner they had before it was returned. However, Angels could protect humans with the full force of their power. Yet, even this was not enough. Demons were winning. God decided to turn the tides by creating a woman by the name of Sol. She protected humans against demons, but than begun to slaughter demons indiscriminately. This went on until she got together with God and the king of hell to make the covenant of heaven and hell. This covenant determined how humans are to be treated within the realm of man, and the punishment for anyone whom breaks these rules.
Humans gained their freedom, and they begun to build their own society. Over time, they forgot about the endless darkness and the dark ones. It was during this time that Lucifer fell from heaven, and eventually became a co-ruler of hell. Ranen retreated to his own realm for some time before returning back to the human realm, and the first person he came upon was a man holding a child. He doesn't know why but his first thought upon seeing the man was to kill him. The man quickly pleaded for his life, telling Ranen that the child he held was Lucifer's daughter. The man must have thought by telling Ranen this that he would decide keeping him alive would be in his best interest, but Ranen did not see it that way.
He saw an opportunity to seize a valued prized, and something that might become useful later. He killed the man and took child back into his realm where he raised her. He didn't count on coming to love her as if she was his own daughter, but he did. A few years passed than the woman whom would become his wife came to him. She was sent to his home to kill him, but Ranen showed her that he was stronger and her mission was not going to be a success. He usually killed assassins, but there was something about this woman that he was drawn towards. She was the most beautiful woman he had every laid his eyes upon, and she was filled with such spirit that he just had to have her. However, he could see the horrors of the things she had endured within her eyes. He knew he couldn't change what had happened, but he believes with time and love he might make their stings less painful.
